With the amount of female celebrities posting nearly-naked or naked photos on social media sites, it’s normal for you to worry about what message it’s sending your own kids. Coming by strong female role models is a challenge in the age of Too Much Information. A good female role model is someone who makes sound decisions and sets an example for young girls across the United States. The following six celebrities are just a few of the women in Hollywood who are worthy of the title of role model.

1. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence, famous for her role as Katniss in The Hunger Games, is a great role model of what young women should aspire to be. She plays strong female characters and has spoken out about her weight by refusing to go on a diet. She is rarely photographed in the usual Hollywood clubs and claims she prefers to stay in.

2. Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen may be one of the best talk show hosts of all time, but aside from that, she’s down-to-earth and funny. Unlike other talk show hosts, her laughs never come at the expense of others. Instead she uses goofiness to get smiles. Ellen was strong enough to come out of the closet in 1997 and speak up about gay rights and equality. Today, Ellen also advocates against bullying and for animal rights. She is a great role model for women of all ages.

3. Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is much more than just the wife of the President of the United States. She’s not afraid to use her power to help promote change for the nation. Throughout her years in the White House, she has promoted national programs such as healthy eating and active living campaigns and global initiatives for women to have access to education. She is successful and accomplished in her own right, not only as a mother and wife but also as a writer and a lawyer.

4. Beyoncé Knowles

Beyoncé is everything the modern woman should aspire to be: she’s ambitious, smart, focused, and incredibly talented. Not to mention, she challenges herself to be better. Her solo career has included numerous albums and hit songs, all while Beyonce has juggled being a wife and mother-proving that modern women can have it all.

5. Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock bounced back from a very public scandal when her husband Jesse James was caught cheating. Her ability to cope with such a curveball in the public eye makes her one strong woman. Not only is she a hugely successful actress, she’s also sweet, funny, and determined. She left Jesse without ever saying a bad word about him to the press and moved on to become a single mother.

6. Emma Watson

As Hermoine in the über-successful Harry Potter series, Emma Watson won over the hearts of parents and children alike. She has handled fame well and is rarely in the tabloids for anything other than her impeccable and tasteful fashion sense. She has spoken out about pressure to dress sexy and fit in to the Hollywood norm, saying that her idea of sexy is “less is more.”
